My Story

It all started with 6 little chicks. That's how it starts for most chicken keepers, I suppose. But soon the chick craze took over, and shortly 6 turned into 12, and then...let's just say #ChickenMathisReal.

After spending hundreds of hours researching every chicken guru's opinion how to feed chickens for less money, the math ultimately ruled, at least for a suburban keeper, there was no homemade option that beat price-per-pound against the cheapest bagged feeds offered, especially as a pandemic and global calamity caused staggering hikes in grain and feed costs.

But there was a problem. My normally big eaters picked over (and tossed) those pellets all over the ground and refused to eat it unless there was no other option. They laid less, and started to look rough. I added protein and oyster shell to little avail. Mid-priced higher protein food was more palatable, but little more, but laying was at least adequate.

That's when I found Kelly's ad on KSL.

Sadly, Kelly shut down his business this year, but by then the word had spread for the amazing feed and many were very sad. He was happy to pass the recipe on, and, armed with a desire to provide for both my own hens and the many others that had already grown to love this amazing feed, Cache Valley Chick-n-Feed was born!
